Superman Returns

Posted by JTENMAN

Release Date: 28 June 2006
Time: 2 hr 34 min
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Rating: PG-13
My Rating: PG-13
Starring: Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey
Grade: A-

Synopsis: The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Singer eventually won the prestigious gig when he pitched the idea to not tackle the origin story again, but continue with director Richard Donner's original vision. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

My Review: This film was great. I probably should have watched the other Superman films that are before this to get the full plot as to what is going on, but this film was still great regardless. Superman was great and I love who they cast for him. There was lot of great action and lots of great Superman moments. They really did an excellent job with the film and even being more than 2 hours it didn't feel long at all. It could have probably gone another half hour without feeling too long. The story had a great twist in it as well. Oh yeah, and Kevin Spacey was perfect as Lex Luther.

Recommend: For sure. The whole family will like it even if you don't remember the earlier films. Check this film out!

Yes Man!

Release Date: 19 December 2008
Time: 1 hr 44 min
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Rating: PG-13
My Rating: PG-13
Starring: Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel
Grade: B+

Synopsis: Based on Danny Wallace's autobiographical book, Jim Carrey stars as a man who decides to spice up his life by saying yes to everything in his life that he would normally say no to. Fun With Dick and Jane's creative team of director Peyton Reed and writer Nick Stoller head up the production. Zooey Deschanel co-stars as the romantic interest, with Bradley Cooper appearing as Carrey's best friend. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

My Review: Fun film with lots of good laughs. This movie would have been in my range because it was hilarious but there were several periods where it just went dry. When it was funny though we were rolling. Jim Carrey delivers a great performance similar to Liar, Liar and Zooey was very good. The story was great as well. There is one time when they say the F-word, but pretty clean other than that.

Recommend: The young kids won't find it very interesting but this is a date night movie if you are looking for a comedy. Lots of fun.

Passengers

Release Date: 24 October 2008
Time: 1 hr 33 min
Distributor: TriStar Pictures
Rating: PG-13
My Rating: PG-13
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Patrick Wilson
Grade: C+

Synopsis: A grief counselor (Anne Hathaway) begins to suspect foul play when the six airplane crash survivors she is tending to mysteriously begin to disappear and the truth behind the tragedy grows ever more clouded in Nine Lives director Rodrigo García's conspiratorial supernatural thriller. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

My Review: This movie was too slow. I liked the movie overall and the idea but it felt really long and I got bored with it. The acting was good and Anne Hathaway did a great job as usual, but I just couldn't get into this movie. The twist at the end was unexpected but I was already too out of it by that point.

Recommend: If you want to, you can check it out, but this movie is one you won't be sad you missed. Nothing super spectacular here.

Get Smart

Release Date: 20 June 2008
Time: 1 hr 50 min
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Rating: PG-13
My Rating: PG-13
Starring: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson
Grade: B+

Synopsis: 40-Year-Old Virgin star Steve Carell steps into the telephonic shoes of television's most beloved bumbling detective in this big-screen adaptation of the hit 1960s-era comedy series created by Mel Brooks. The evil geniuses at KAOS have hatched a diabolical plot to dominate every living man, woman, and child on the planet, and their plot gets under way as they attack the headquarters of the U.S. spy agency Control. As a result of the attack, the identity of every agent working for Control has been compromised. Realizing that the only way to thwart KAOS' evil plan is to promote eager but inexperienced Control analyst Maxwell Smart (Carell) to the rank of special agent, the Chief (Alan Arkin) reluctantly teams Smart with Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) -- a veteran super-spy whose beauty is only surpassed by her lethality. With no real field experience to speak of and nothing but sheer enthusiasm and a handful of fancy spy gadgets to help him accomplish his deadly mission, Maxwell Smart his new partner, Agent 99, will be forced to faces malevolent KAOS head Siegfried (Terence Stamp) and his loyal army of minions in a decisive fight that will determine the fate of the free world. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, David Koechner, Terry Crews, and Ken Davitian co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

My Review: This film was funny at times. There were times when it felt like it was crawling along. I thought the film got better as the film went along. I thought the story between Carell and Hathaway was pretty good and better than I was expecting because to me it seems like Carell is much older. The film definitely had its laughs - especially the dance scene.

Recommend: Family film. This movie was fun and funny. The kids will like it as well because of the action.

Bedtime Stories

Posted by JTENMAN

Release Date: 25 December 2008
Time: 1 hr 39 min
Distributor: Walt Disney pictures
Rating: PG
My Rating: PG
Starring: Adam Sandler, Keri Russell
Grade: B+

Synopsis: The Pacifier director Adam Shankman helms this children's fantasy concerning a hotel handyman who gradually begins to realize that the imaginative bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew are somehow beginning to manifest themselves in the real world. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

My Review: This film is a lot of fun but you must be prepared for some "cheesy" scenes in the film. Other than those scenes, this film was very well done, the humor is very clean and overall the film is a lot of fun. Sandler does a great job in his role and Russell actually really surprised me with her role. The overall story is fun as well and I was happily surprised at this film. It kept moving and never felt too slow. Oh yea, and Bugsy is awesome.

Recommend: Definitely see this movie. This film is great for all age groups and besides some women in bikinis there isn't anything really that bad in the film.
