Synopsis: Coming off the finale of television's popular sitcom THE KING OF QUEENS and 2007's I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY, funnyman Kevin James takes the role of a single dad in this largely physical comedy, which the actor also co-wrote. Paul Blart (James) is a hard worker, but has never landed his dream job of being New Jersey state trooper due to his excess weight. Determined to support his mother and his daughter, Blart takes the slightly less glamorous post as the security guard at his local shopping mall. He never complains, approaching the job with impressive diligence and pride, but doesn't get much respect for it. It's only when a group of misfits in Santa's Helper disguises take hold of the mall and several hostages that Blart's would-be cop smarts come in handy and he gets a chance to shine. With a deadly situation on hand, Blart may finally be able to show the world (and his romantic interest, who just happens to be one of the hostages) what he's made of. Though the villains have several advantages over him, Blart has a Segway scooter and a big heart on his side. While many of its jokes come at the expense of James's extra pounds, the film ultimately makes its star out to be a hero. With his everyman appeal, James is well-suited to play Blart, showing that even average Joes can make a difference with the right attitude. PAUL BLART: MALL COP takes the banal out of the shopping mall, infusing a familiar setting with energy, laughs, and high-stakes drama.

My Review: This film was way too cheesy for my liking. I am usually alright with the Hollywood film being a little cheesy but this one is just over the top. The film wasn't as funny as I was hoping either. I did enjoy the film at times but when it was over I was asking myself why I had wanted watch it. There isn't anything that great about it.

Recommend: Only if there is nothing else to watch and you are in the mood for a cheesy film.

My Review: This film was about where I expected it to be. Nothing too spectacular and pretty predictable. Most of the Indiana Jones films are pretty predictable though. Harrison Ford still has it as the old Jones in this one. I thought that Cate Blanchett really stole the film though and did an excellent job. She made a very convincing evil Russian woman - and her Russian is actually pretty good compared to most.

Recommend: This is a fun family film. There are a couple of scenes that may be a little intense for little ones, but overall a fun film.

Synopsis: DUPLICITY is a slick, Soderberghian comic caper in which it’s never exactly clear who is being conned. It’s easy to see that ex-CIA agent Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) and former MI6 member Ray Koval (Clive Owen) have a heated history together when they embark on an elaborate mission of corporate espionage. Two rival CEOs (played by the always fantastic Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti) are battling for the top spot in their industry, and a top-secret new product would determine who would wear the crown. But this isn’t just about business innovation and profit: Claire and Ray have a plan that would help them get the prized formula and walk away with millions. Tony Gilroy’s previous work as screenwriter and director--namely the Jason Bourne films and MICHAEL CLAYTON--didn’t give any indication that he could create something this bouncy and light. But while DUPLICITY is fun, it’s never dumb; it jumps back and forth in time with style, playing an elaborate game that its scheming lead characters would be proud of. As Ray and Claire, Owen and Roberts display the same fiery chemistry that they showed in the gut-punching romantic drama CLOSER, but this time, they play (mostly) nice. If DUPLICITY can draw comparison to the classic genre bender CHARADE, then it’s not a stretch to liken Owen to Cary Grant--he has an easy charm that ensnares not only each woman in the film but everyone in the audience as well.

My Review: I was expecting more from this film with the excellent cast. They did do a good job but the film was a bit of a dissapointment. It kind of dragged along at times and I was wondering if it was ever going to end. Clive and Julia have a fun little relationship going and they do a great job. I liked the fun twist at the end as well.

Recommend: This film probably wouldn't be a good one for kids. It would be a suitable date night film.

He quickly realizes that the mysterious siblings, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig), are far from average--especially when they are pursued by a villain wearing a high-tech suit of armor. With the help of Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), the trio travels to Witch Mountain, a secret government outpost in the Nevada desert, with the hopes of evading their pursuers and sending Sara and Seth home--and saving Earth in the process. This latest installment in the Witch Mountain series comes more than 30 years after the release of the first two films, ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN. Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, who played siblings Tia and Tony in the original films, appear in small but pivotal roles as a waitress and a sheriff. Johnson makes Bruno likable, even though the character barely likes himself. Robb and Ludwig are well cast as the earnest siblings who hold the fate of the world in their hands. Chase scenes abound and special effects that highlight the teens’ special powers are prevalent, but the film remains kid-friendly. Cheech Marin and Garry Marshall make brief cameo appearances

My Review: I've been meaning to watch this film for sometime. I found the film quite entertaining and I enjoyed all of it. Dwayne Johnson gives a good performance and as always has his moments. The kids he meet are pretty good in the film as well and I thought that Dwayne and AnnaSophia had a great on screen relationship going. This film is fast paced and funny which made it great.

Recommend: This is one for the whole family to enjoy.

Synopsis: Just as LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE did in 2006, DAN IN REAL LIFE reveals that Steve Carell is an actor who can do more than just comedy. He's won both accolades and awards as bumbling boss Michael Scott on THE OFFICE, but there's a greater depth to this performance as a single father and man in love. Advice columnist Dan Burns (Carell) has his hands full with three daughters that he's not willing to let grow up. The girls still grieve for their mother who died four years ago, and Dan hasn't made any attempts to date. So he's pleasantly surprised when he meets Marie (Juliette Binoche) at a bookstore when he goes to his parents' Rhode Island home for the annual family reunion. But his joy is short-lived when he discovers that she is dating his brother (Dane Cook), forcing Dan to hide his feelings and chemistry with Marie. Carell adeptly balances his role's humor and heartache, while Binoche (CHOCOLAT) is radiant as ever. Comedian Cook (GOOD LUCK CHUCK) shows surprising talent as the third leg of their love triangle. Through his duties as director and co-screenwriter, Peter Hedges deserves much of the credit for creating a film that is sweet without being sappy. Even though he's working with a far bigger budget than he did for his directorial debut, PIECES OF APRIL, he still maintains the feelings of intimacy and honesty that made that film such a critical favorite. What could have been a standard romantic comedy of errors turns into a strong film that goes deeper than many of its peers in the genre. DAN IN REAL LIFE also succeeds thanks to its soundtrack from Norwegian indie pop musician Sondre Lerche. The singer's compositions, both originals and favorites from his career, perfectly suit the film's tone and moods.

My Review: This movie was a decent film about Dan's lack of a love life after his wife passes away. The film has its moments but I was hoping that it would be funnier than it was. Steve Carell kind of let me down with this one.

Recommend: This is a fun date night film.

Synopsis: In November 1970, a plane carrying almost the entire Marshall University football team, its staff and fans crashed, killing 75 people in all and devastating the small town of Huntington, West Virginia. WE ARE MARSHALL, directed by McG (THE O.C., FASTLANE) tells the tragic true story of how the university and the citizens of Huntington rebuilt the football program and dealt with the loss of so many of their own. The university's president, Donald Dedmon, earnestly portrayed by David Strathairn (GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK), hires the only willing coach to take on such a daunting task, Jack Lengyl (Matthew McConaughey). With the help of the lone Marshall football coach Red Dawson (Matthew Fox) and the three remaining players who weren't on the plane, Coach Lengyl sets out to restructure Marshall's team, and spirit. But for some in the community it's still too soon, including Paul Griffen (Ian McShane) who lost his football-star son. They fear that moving on so quickly is disrespectful to those who died and to the loved ones who still mourn. The film emphasizes this issue, illustrating the struggle of that harrowing time at Marshall, and in college football history. Although WE ARE MARSHALL contains a similar theme to other sports movies, rising from adversity, the tragedy of so many lives lost in a small community and the painful recovery sets this film apart. Strong performances by McConaughey (FAILURE TO LAUNCH)—his wit and energy adds much needed doses of comic relief, Fox (LOST), and McShane (DEADWOOD) successfully help bring the historical and inspiring story of Marshall University to the big screen, a must-see for all sports fans.

My Review: This is quite an incredible story about the Marshall football program and what it went through to come back to national prominence. McConaughey gives a pretty good performance as the head coach of the new team and like many sports films, it makes you believe in the power of coming together as a team. The film was a bit long at some points and I hoped it would move a little faster, but overall a pretty good film.

Recommend: Possible date night film or if you don't have anyone to watch with then this would be a good one to watch on your own.

Synopsis: Martin Scorsese's THE AVIATOR is a lavish spectacle of a motion picture that harks back to Hollywood's Golden Era in telling the story of Howard Hughes, one of 20th-century America's most pioneering and influential figures. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the eccentric billionaire, Scorsese's biopic concentrates on Hughes's life between the 1920s and '40s, when he made striking contributions to both the film and aviation industries. At only 25 years of age, Hughes directed the most expensive film ever made up to that point, HELL'S ANGELS (1930), which Scorsese gleefully recreates here in all its sprawling, audacious glory. At the same time, he became known as an unabashed playboy, bedding the likes of Jean Harlow (singer Gwen Stefani), Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale), and Katherine Hepburn (a brilliant Cate Blanchett). In the mid-'30s, he turned his attention to the aviation industry, where he quickly became world-renowned for shattering speed and distance records. He also continued to test the limits of flight technology, building bigger, faster, and stronger aircrafts. All the while, he struggled with an obsessive-compulsive disorder that sent him into a full-fledged tailspin after a near-fatal plane crash. The film concludes with Hughes being called before the Senate in 1947 to defend himself against the nefarious Senator Owen Brewster (Alan Alda), who accused Hughes of taking money from the United States government during wartime. Stunningly photographed by Robert Richardson, Scorsese's nearly three-hour drama features an impassioned performance by DiCaprio, who is also credited as an executive producer. Although she appears in less than a third of the film, Blanchett delivers a performance that cements her status as one of the finest actresses ever to appear on the big screen.

My Review: Pretty good and interesting film about the aviator, Howard Hughes. I must say that the film was a little too long and felt like it was dragging by the end but it was interesting to learn a little bit about the history of the airline companies and how crazy Mr. Hughes was. Dicaprio did a good job portraying Mr. Hughes and I was pretty captivated by this odd and different man.

Recommend: Date night maybe? Don't watch this when you're tired as you'll never make it through. Definitely see this film if you haven't.

Synopsis: When choosing which mutant hero they would use to launch the X-MEN feature-film prequel series ORIGINS, the creators of the hugely successful franchise had a no-brainer of a decision in going with Wolverine. Not only is he the most well-known and popular X-Men character, but Wolverine--as brought expertly to life in true leading-man fashion by Hugh Jackman--was essentially the star of the three previous X-MEN movies. As the title implies, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE is the back story of the fiery and conflicted Wolverine (né James Logan), whose mutant powers include killer claws that shoot from his knuckles and a regenerative ability that allows him to live seemingly forever. Taking a few mild liberties but staying relatively faithful to the comic-book source material, ORIGINS follows Logan from his first recognition of his mutant powers as a young child up through his infamous adamantium rebirth and the total memory loss that would subsequently fuel his angry quest. Wolverine’s story has enough intriguing details to allow for a grown-up psychodrama in the mold of THE DARK KNIGHT, and the actors on hand--including Danny Huston as Stryker and Liev Schreiber as Logan’s half-brother, Victor (aka Sabretooth)--have the chops to deliver. Director Gavin Hood, however, opts in favor of cinematic razzle-dazzle heavy on John Woo-style action-ballet and CGI glitz. From Deadpool’s eye-popping swordplay (the action-adventure equivalent of Riverdance) to the tightrope-walk of a fight scene in the film’s finale, WOLVERINE is a blockbuster action film in the most fundamental sense of the word. While some might complain that the film lacks the storytelling substance of the first two X-MEN films, if it’s bang you’re after, then this certainly isn’t a waste of your bucks.

My Review: This film was excellently done. They definitely kept the story in tact by going back and retelling the coming of Wolverine. After seeing the other films and then this one, I was glad that they came back and told this story. It finally makes sense where Wolverine came from after he did so much soul searching in the other films.

Hugh Jackman gives another great performance as wolverine and this film is packed with action as is expected. There is a love story that is intertwined throughout that plays excellently into the entire film. Overall, I was very impressed with the excellent job they did with this film.

Recommend: Most everyone should enjoy this. It can be a family film. If you have really little ones then they might be scared by some of the action.

Synopsis: Using the assasination attempt of the historical figure, Chin Shi Huang Di (The first emperor of China) as a backdrop, this film attempts to explore and develop a better understanding of the Chinese concept of a hero. In a Chinese cultural context, it hopes to explore the preconceptions and misinterpretations of heroism and heroes. At the height of China's Warring States period, the country was divided into seven kingdoms: Qin, Zhao, Han Wei, Yan, Chu and Qi. For years, the separate kingdoms fought ruthlessly for supremacy. As a result, the populace endured decades of death and suffering. The Kingdom of Qin was the most determined of all. The Qin King was obsessed with conquering all of China and becoming her first Emperor. He had long been the target of assassins throughout the other six states. Of all the would-be killers, none inspired as much fear as the three legendary assassins, Broken Sword, Flying Snow and Sky. My Review: This film started out a little slow but got better as it went along. It was interesting to learn about the history of China and how it came to be. The film was a bit tough to watch with the subtitles throughout but the overall story was pretty good. One thing is that you shouldn't be prepared for a Hollywood ending as this is based on a true story in China. It kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth but all was well. The fighting sequences are very excellent as well.

Recommend: If you liked "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or you like Asian martial art films then you should check this movie out. Kids won't be too interested.

When they all become amorously entangled, the results are both hilarious and harrowing.

My Review: This movie was too long and had no point. A movie only and all about sex and that is really all. Dubbed as a comedy but there were practically no funny moments at all in the film. Literally the film was about Juan Antonio and sleeping with all kinds of different women and all of the women ruining relationships. I didn't give it an F because I did watch the entire film and not turn it off.

Recommend: Don't waste your time. This film isn't worth it.

Synopsis: Haunted by memories of her late mother, 14-year-old Lily Owens (Dakota Fanning) runs away with her friend and caregiver Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson) to the South Carolina town that holds the key to her mother's past. There, Lily meets the Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Sophie Okonedo), who take her in and teach her about beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna.

My Review: I was very impressed by this film. Very rarely do I find a film better than the book it is based on, but this is one of those rare exceptions. I think the main reason is because of the excellent cast and acting in this film. They truly brought the story to life of Lily trying to find herself. The film follows the book almost exactly with only one small derivation that doesn't affect a whole lot. I really enjoyed this movie.

Recommend: Date night film. Children won't be interested, but this is truly a great film to watch with someone else. Definitely check this movie out.

Synopsis: Arthur Golden's blockbuster bestseller, MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, has been brilliantly brought to the big screen by Oscar-nominated director Rob Marshall (CHICAGO). The film opens in a remote Japanese fishing village in 1929, where two sisters, Chiyo and Satsu, are sold by their troubled father to people who place Chiyo in a classy geisha house known as an okiya in Gion and Satsu in a much more vulgar and dangerous district. Chiyo becomes a maid to Hatsumomo, a cold, controlling, and calculating geisha who is instantly jealous of Chiyo's unusual, beautiful eyes and childish innocence. Chiyo is befriended by Pumpkin, another maid at the okiya, but the two are soon driven apart. Chiyo is shown compassion by the Chairman and another, more successful geisha, Mameha, who takes her under her wing as her "little sister," furthering the battle between Chiyo, now called Sayuri, and Hatsumomo. As Sayuri is trained in the art of being a geisha, learning how to walk, talk, dance, and serve (up to a point) in order to please and honor her distinguished male clients, World War II looms on the horizon, threatening to upend Japan and its old ways. MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA is a lush, sweeping historical and romantic epic, featuring gorgeous period costumes, primarily the exquisite kimono worn by the geisha. Ziyi Zhang (HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS) is outstanding as Sayuri, who stands up to the oppressive Hatsumomo (the effervescent Gong Li), while Michelle Yeoh, who starred with Zhang in CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, is splendid as the wise and elegant Mameha. Ken Watanabe (THE LAST SAMURAI), Koji Yakusho (SHALL WE DANCE?), and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (ELEKTRA) are among the men who take an interest in Sayuri, who is continually faced with difficult choices that will shape her destiny, just as Japan's destiny is changing shape with the coming of the West. John Williams's soaring score is enhanced by solos from virtuosos Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman

My Review: This film was too long. It was just too slow for all of the content that it covered. It is based off of the book by Arthur Golden that was an international bestseller. The film follows the book to a degree but there are a lot of things that have changed. The acting was pretty good in the film and the overall storyline was interesting. It is certainly interesting to learn more about other cultures.

Recommend: If you are interested in learning more about the Japanese culture and what a Geisha is then check this film out. Not really a good one for the kids so plan on just the adults for this one.

My Review: This was a good film about a young man from Afghanistan. The film is based on the book by Khaled Hosseini and follows it pretty closely. The reason for me watching the film was to see how closely it actually followed the book. The film was pretty well done, but I felt like it was a little slow at some points, but that is probably because I had read the book. The film is pretty moving as the book is. If you are going to read the book then do so before watching the movie. Otherwise, the film is a decent substitute for the book. The acting was pretty good. It was interesting to learn more about Afghanistan and its history.

Recommend: Adults, maybe a date night. There are some more advanced themes in the film that are probably not as appropriated for younger children and they won't be interested. Note that most of the movies is subtitled so be prepared to read.

My Review: This film was way too long. It wasn't even 2 hours and it felt like I had been watching it for 4. It was an interesting story and the facts that they showed at the end of the film were quite fascinating (it's based on a true story) but other than that the stuff in between felt too long. The film was pretty slow and there wasn't any really great plot twists or anything.

Recommend: Only watch this film if you care about the history involved. If you are looking for a thriller or who did it type of film then you should look elsewhere because this film just won't do it for you.

My Review: This movie was good but I felt like it was too long. By the end I was ready for it to be over. The film was depressing as well so that didn't help. I am not a big fan of boxing but this was a pretty inspirational story and I thought that Clint Eastwood gave an excellent performance. He made his character pretty believable and I really felt bad for him for never winning a championship.

Recommend: Kids won't enjoy it and you should only watch this if you are pretty awake and ready for the depressing story. The film is good.

My Review: This movie was great. It kept my interest from the very beginning with the excitement of the magic tricks and carried all the way through to the surprise ending. Ed Norton does a superb job and the storyline is very good. Too be honest, it was quite different from what I was expecting but that didn't mean it was bad. I actually really enjoyed the basic plot and storyline.

Recommend: This is a fun film for everyone. The kids may lose interest mid-way through because it does turn a little more to the story than magic, but they should still enjoy it.

My Review: They did a pretty decent job of taking the book to film. The film was completely action packed and there was no slow parts. My biggest problem with the film was the lack of explanation as to what was going on. I understood what was going on because I have read the book but otherwise I would have been pretty lost. Acting was alright but nothing spectacular. I did think the Carmelengo was well cast. The other issue that I had with the film is that I wish they would have shown the symbols better (Earth, Air, Wind, and Fire). When I read the book, they absolutely captivated me.

Recommend: If you've read the book, then you likely be disappointed. Otherwise, check this film out for a date night.

My Review: This film is a typical chick flick. I enjoyed the film for what it was worth and I thought Isla did a good job as the primary role (I confused her with Amy Adams). There wasn't anything that put this film in great company but it was another fun chic flick.

Recommend: Good date night movie. The kids won't last long in it.

Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequence.

My Review: Doubt was pretty good for most of the movie but the ending just destroyed any good things that were in the movie. The film felt like it went on too long and the ending felt "unfinished" in a way. The only reason that the film didn't get an F was because the acting in the film was pretty good and like I said, I was engaged and enjoying the movie until close to the end.

Recommend: No. Don't waste your time with this movie. You will feel cheated.

Likewise, Frost's team harbored doubts about their boss' ability to hold his own. But as cameras rolled, a charged battle of wits resulted. Would Nixon evade questions of his role in one of the nation's greatest disgraces? Or would Frost confound critics and bravely demand accountability from the man who'd built a career out of stonewalling? Over the course of their encounter, each man would reveal his own insecurities, ego and reserves of dignity -- ultimately setting aside posturing in a stunning display of unvarnished truth.

My Review: This film was excellent. The acting was very good. Both Frost and Nixon were very believable characters and the history that was portrayed was extremely interesting. The only reason that I didn't give an A+ to this film is because there were a couple of parts that were a bit slow in the film. However, the film moves along pretty well and the Nixon confession is great.

Recommend: This is a great film to learn some history. Not for children as they will lose interest fast. Definitely recommend this film.
