Synopsis: Coming off the finale of television's popular sitcom THE KING OF QUEENS and 2007's I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY, funnyman Kevin James takes the role of a single dad in this largely physical comedy, which the actor also co-wrote. Paul Blart (James) is a hard worker, but has never landed his dream job of being New Jersey state trooper due to his excess weight. Determined to support his mother and his daughter, Blart takes the slightly less glamorous post as the security guard at his local shopping mall. He never complains, approaching the job with impressive diligence and pride, but doesn't get much respect for it. It's only when a group of misfits in Santa's Helper disguises take hold of the mall and several hostages that Blart's would-be cop smarts come in handy and he gets a chance to shine. With a deadly situation on hand, Blart may finally be able to show the world (and his romantic interest, who just happens to be one of the hostages) what he's made of. Though the villains have several advantages over him, Blart has a Segway scooter and a big heart on his side. While many of its jokes come at the expense of James's extra pounds, the film ultimately makes its star out to be a hero. With his everyman appeal, James is well-suited to play Blart, showing that even average Joes can make a difference with the right attitude. PAUL BLART: MALL COP takes the banal out of the shopping mall, infusing a familiar setting with energy, laughs, and high-stakes drama.

My Review: This film was way too cheesy for my liking. I am usually alright with the Hollywood film being a little cheesy but this one is just over the top. The film wasn't as funny as I was hoping either. I did enjoy the film at times but when it was over I was asking myself why I had wanted watch it. There isn't anything that great about it.

Recommend: Only if there is nothing else to watch and you are in the mood for a cheesy film.

Synopsis: DUPLICITY is a slick, Soderberghian comic caper in which it’s never exactly clear who is being conned. It’s easy to see that ex-CIA agent Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) and former MI6 member Ray Koval (Clive Owen) have a heated history together when they embark on an elaborate mission of corporate espionage. Two rival CEOs (played by the always fantastic Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti) are battling for the top spot in their industry, and a top-secret new product would determine who would wear the crown. But this isn’t just about business innovation and profit: Claire and Ray have a plan that would help them get the prized formula and walk away with millions. Tony Gilroy’s previous work as screenwriter and director--namely the Jason Bourne films and MICHAEL CLAYTON--didn’t give any indication that he could create something this bouncy and light. But while DUPLICITY is fun, it’s never dumb; it jumps back and forth in time with style, playing an elaborate game that its scheming lead characters would be proud of. As Ray and Claire, Owen and Roberts display the same fiery chemistry that they showed in the gut-punching romantic drama CLOSER, but this time, they play (mostly) nice. If DUPLICITY can draw comparison to the classic genre bender CHARADE, then it’s not a stretch to liken Owen to Cary Grant--he has an easy charm that ensnares not only each woman in the film but everyone in the audience as well.

My Review: I was expecting more from this film with the excellent cast. They did do a good job but the film was a bit of a dissapointment. It kind of dragged along at times and I was wondering if it was ever going to end. Clive and Julia have a fun little relationship going and they do a great job. I liked the fun twist at the end as well.

Recommend: This film probably wouldn't be a good one for kids. It would be a suitable date night film.

He quickly realizes that the mysterious siblings, Sara (AnnaSophia Robb) and Seth (Alexander Ludwig), are far from average--especially when they are pursued by a villain wearing a high-tech suit of armor. With the help of Dr. Alex Friedman (Carla Gugino), the trio travels to Witch Mountain, a secret government outpost in the Nevada desert, with the hopes of evading their pursuers and sending Sara and Seth home--and saving Earth in the process. This latest installment in the Witch Mountain series comes more than 30 years after the release of the first two films, ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN. Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann, who played siblings Tia and Tony in the original films, appear in small but pivotal roles as a waitress and a sheriff. Johnson makes Bruno likable, even though the character barely likes himself. Robb and Ludwig are well cast as the earnest siblings who hold the fate of the world in their hands. Chase scenes abound and special effects that highlight the teens’ special powers are prevalent, but the film remains kid-friendly. Cheech Marin and Garry Marshall make brief cameo appearances

My Review: I've been meaning to watch this film for sometime. I found the film quite entertaining and I enjoyed all of it. Dwayne Johnson gives a good performance and as always has his moments. The kids he meet are pretty good in the film as well and I thought that Dwayne and AnnaSophia had a great on screen relationship going. This film is fast paced and funny which made it great.

Recommend: This is one for the whole family to enjoy.

Synopsis: Just as LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE did in 2006, DAN IN REAL LIFE reveals that Steve Carell is an actor who can do more than just comedy. He's won both accolades and awards as bumbling boss Michael Scott on THE OFFICE, but there's a greater depth to this performance as a single father and man in love. Advice columnist Dan Burns (Carell) has his hands full with three daughters that he's not willing to let grow up. The girls still grieve for their mother who died four years ago, and Dan hasn't made any attempts to date. So he's pleasantly surprised when he meets Marie (Juliette Binoche) at a bookstore when he goes to his parents' Rhode Island home for the annual family reunion. But his joy is short-lived when he discovers that she is dating his brother (Dane Cook), forcing Dan to hide his feelings and chemistry with Marie. Carell adeptly balances his role's humor and heartache, while Binoche (CHOCOLAT) is radiant as ever. Comedian Cook (GOOD LUCK CHUCK) shows surprising talent as the third leg of their love triangle. Through his duties as director and co-screenwriter, Peter Hedges deserves much of the credit for creating a film that is sweet without being sappy. Even though he's working with a far bigger budget than he did for his directorial debut, PIECES OF APRIL, he still maintains the feelings of intimacy and honesty that made that film such a critical favorite. What could have been a standard romantic comedy of errors turns into a strong film that goes deeper than many of its peers in the genre. DAN IN REAL LIFE also succeeds thanks to its soundtrack from Norwegian indie pop musician Sondre Lerche. The singer's compositions, both originals and favorites from his career, perfectly suit the film's tone and moods.

My Review: This movie was a decent film about Dan's lack of a love life after his wife passes away. The film has its moments but I was hoping that it would be funnier than it was. Steve Carell kind of let me down with this one.

Recommend: This is a fun date night film.

Synopsis: Two young Americans spend a summer in Spain and meet a flamboyant artist (Javier Bardem) and his beautiful but insane ex-wife (Penelope Cruz). Vicky (Rebecca Hall) is straight-laced and about to be married. Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) is a sexually adventurous free spirit. When they all become amorously entangled, the results are both hilarious and harrowing.

My Review: This movie was too long and had no point. A movie only and all about sex and that is really all. Dubbed as a comedy but there were practically no funny moments at all in the film. Literally the film was about Juan Antonio and sleeping with all kinds of different women and all of the women ruining relationships. I didn't give it an F because I did watch the entire film and not turn it off.

Recommend: Don't waste your time. This film isn't worth it.

My Review: This film is a typical chick flick. I enjoyed the film for what it was worth and I thought Isla did a good job as the primary role (I confused her with Amy Adams). There wasn't anything that put this film in great company but it was another fun chic flick.

Recommend: Good date night movie. The kids won't last long in it.

My Review: Fun film with lots of good laughs. This movie would have been in my range because it was hilarious but there were several periods where it just went dry. When it was funny though we were rolling. Jim Carrey delivers a great performance similar to Liar, Liar and Zooey was very good. The story was great as well. There is one time when they say the F-word, but pretty clean other than that.

Recommend: The young kids won't find it very interesting but this is a date night movie if you are looking for a comedy. Lots of fun.

My Review: This film was funny at times. There were times when it felt like it was crawling along. I thought the film got better as the film went along. I thought the story between Carell and Hathaway was pretty good and better than I was expecting because to me it seems like Carell is much older. The film definitely had its laughs - especially the dance scene.

Recommend: Family film. This movie was fun and funny. The kids will like it as well because of the action.

My Review: This film is a lot of fun but you must be prepared for some "cheesy" scenes in the film. Other than those scenes, this film was very well done, the humor is very clean and overall the film is a lot of fun. Sandler does a great job in his role and Russell actually really surprised me with her role. The overall story is fun as well and I was happily surprised at this film. It kept moving and never felt too slow. Oh yea, and Bugsy is awesome.

Recommend: Definitely see this movie. This film is great for all age groups and besides some women in bikinis there isn't anything really that bad in the film.

My Review: This movie was just what I was expecting. It was a cute chic-flick and it had it's moments. I have always enjoyed Anne Hathaway in films and she does a great job here again. This film had its moments and I laughed a few times. Nothing great but it was fun.

Recommend: This is great for a date night or girls night. Guys will enjoy it as well.

Africa seems like a great place...but is it better than their Central Park home?

My Review: This movie was full of laughs just like the first one. The penguins were quite hilarious and as usual these days with animated films, there are a lot of over-the-head jokes that are just for adults. The film was a little slow at times and so that is what brought down the grade. It could have been funnier, but still well done. The first film was better than this one.

Recommend: This is a great film for the whole family. Definitely check this one out with the kids and enjoy the good times. You don't need to watch the first film again to see this one.

Synopsis: Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear), who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni).

My Review: This movie was pretty funny. Dr. Pincus was great. His personality was absolutely hilarious and at times it reminded me too much of myself. I guess the big difference is that I don't act the way that he does, I just think the same things. The film was pretty funny, but some of the jokes didn't go over so well, and there were a couple of times where you wanted the movie to move along. Dr. Pincus definitely made this movie. There wasn't really anything that bad in the film at all. Fun stuff.

Recommend: This is a great date night film, or just when you want to watch something funny and lighthearted. Feel free to let the kids join in, but they probably won't be too interested.

But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po puts his heart - and his girth - into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths.

My Review: Good story about being able to fulfill your dreams if you believe in yourself, work hard, and have a little bit of luck. It was a good theme, and the animation was well done. Po is a great panda character and I like how he is always trying to eat. It is pretty funny. I went into this film with higher expectations than what it delivered. The story was pretty slow and not as funny as I thought. Also, it was lacking a love story which I think would have made it a little better, and could have added some great jokes. All in all though, a decent film.

Recommend: Especially for the kids. They love films like this. Parents will also enjoy it, but as I stated above, it is a little slower than I was hoping and not as funny as I was hoping for. It was still a great animated film. If you have to choose between this and Shrek, choose Shrek hands down.

Hancock isn't the kind of man who cares what other people think -- until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock's greatest challenge yet -- and a task that may prove impossible as Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), insists that he's a lost cause.

My Review: I really enjoyed this film. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed the story line. The films underlying theme of being able to change no matter what is inspiring and Will Smith does a great job as Hancock. He plays both a prick and a great hero very well. Also, the chemistry between him and Charlize is quite interesting and brings up a lot of questions. There is a great twist in this film that I had no idea was there, and it made the film very good. And who doesn't want to be able to fly?

Recommend: This is a great film that I think the whole family will enjoy. There is one scene where Will Smith's mouth gets away from him but for the most part the film is suitable for the family (now that I think about it, they like the "A-word" a lot). The film is very inspiring nonetheless.

My Review: I was a bit disappointed with this film. I had heard a lot of hype and good things, but it turned out to be a little slow. Wall-E was great and I enjoyed how they made him seem pretty human and he did a lot of fun things during the film. The basic storyline was a decent one, and so that was good. The end of the film was definitely much better than the beginning. I did enjoy the little cockroach :).

Recommend: The kids will love this one, and most people will enjoy it, but I am warning you not to watch it while you are tired.

My Review: Another film with Abigail Breslin where she does an excellent job. I did not enjoy this movie as much as the last one with her, but it was still well done. Some of the parts of the story were very cheesy, especially the ending, but at the same time I wish that I could have been there to help the girl. Watching this film really will want to make you move to a stranded island to live. One thing that I wish they would have expanded on is how they got internet. My wife and I were both wondering the minute we found out they did... Also, Jodie Foster does a good job being the crazy lady in the film.

Recommend: This one is much more for the kids. I think they will enjoy this more than Kit Kittredge, but for the adults, this film is not as entertaining. This is a good family film and it really wants to make you move to the stranded island.

Synopsis: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH is based on Jules Verne's 1864 novel. A scientist heads out on a treacherous journey to the center of the earth. With him are an intrepid student, an Icelandic guide and the widow of a geologist who steals his information in an attempt to beat him to the earth's core. Along the way the group are confronted by all manner of dangerous obstacles: excessive heat and cold, gale force winds, and tremendous floods.

My Review: This film was interesting and a lot of fun. The film was pretty well done in terms of length and actors. We didn't have 3-D glasses when watching it which would have made this movie all the better. Brendan Fraser did an excellent job and the relationship between him and his nephew was very funny and made the film really move along. Special effects were pretty good, but sometimes they looked cheesy.

Recommend: Get some 3-D glasses before watching this film. The kids will absolutely love it I am sure with the glasses, and even without it is still an enjoyable one. Perhaps read the book too. I have never read the book that the film is based on, but maybe the book will be all the better now that I have seen the movie. All the same, check this movie out.

Synopsis: Good Night, and Good Luck director George Clooney pulls double duty once again in this sports-oriented romantic comedy set against the formation of professional football in the 1920s. Dodge Connelly (Clooney) is a brash and handsome gridiron giant who is equally comfortable leading his team in a barroom brawl or charging for a touchdown in a packed stadium. But when Connelly's team loses their sponsor and the entire league appears set to collapse, the quick-thinking jock attempts a creative late-game comeback. If Connelly can convince former college football star and decorated war hero Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski) to join the team, there may be hope for the ill-fated team after all. Back in World War I, Rutherford single-handedly forced the surrender of multiple German soldiers -- a feat that firmly established the dashing young soldier as America's favorite son. Not only that, but Rutherford's unparalleled speed makes him a valuable asset to the team. My Review: A clever film about the beginnings of football. It was not as funny as I was hoping for but one of the fight scenes gave me a good laugh. Clooney does an excellent job as the old football guy and Kasinski plays his role well. I am normally not a big fan of Zellweger either but she seemed to play her part very well. There was a good chemistry between her and Clooney and they both were funny together. I cannot recall any scenes that made this film a PG-13 film. The language was clean from what I can remember and there were no bad scenes. The film did feel a bit long.

Recommend: Check this one out with the family. Especially if you are a football fan you will be surprised at how everything started. I still can't believe how unpopular football was. This film should be a good entertainer and keep most everyone interested. Maybe you'll lose the kids near the end, but it is a lot of fun either way.

Synopsis: Former Saturday Night Live "Weekend Update" co-anchors Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-star in this baby-fever comedy about a single, career-oriented woman who previously put parenthood on hold, and is forced to hire a surrogate mother when she discovers there is only a one-in-a-million chance that she will be able to get pregnant. Kate Holbrook (Fey) is a 37-year-old professional who has always put her professional life before her personal life, but these days her biological clock is ticking louder than ever before. As with everything else she has accomplished in life, Kate is determined to have a child on her own terms.

My Review: This film is great but some of the humor is very mature. Obviously, with a film about child birth it is kind of expected. There were times when I was laughing I could barely breathe during this film. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey do a great job together in this film and Amy plays here part perfectly as the surrogate mother who is irresponsible. She made the part very believable. Also, I really enjoyed the doorman - Romany Malco. Probably some of the funniest scenes come in the pregnancy class where the two are together and this crazy teacher is teaching them. Finally, by the end, you realize what a blessing it is to actually have kids and be able to watch them.

Recommend: For sure, but probably for an older audience age. I have never had kids, so I am sure there are themes here that I missed or didn't understand, but it was a fun movie. One other thing is that you should definitely watch the deleted scenes. There is one scene about breastfeeding in there that I about died watching. However, there is one deleted scene when Tina Fey is talking to her sister and there is some harsh language that you probably want to skip. Enjoy the film.

Synopsis: For Tom (Patrick Dempsey), life is good: he's sexy, successful, has great luck with the ladies… and knows he can always rely on Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), his down-to-earth, charming best friend and the one constant in his life. It's the perfect setup until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland on a six-week business trip… and Tom is stunned to realize how empty his life is without her. He resolves that when she gets back, he'll ask Hannah to marry him -- but is floored when he finds that she has become engaged to a handsome and wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. When Hannah asks Tom -- the one person she feels closest to -- to be her “"maid"” of honor, he reluctantly agrees to fill the role,… but only so he can attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding before it's too late.

My Review: This is another chick flick that has been made a hundred times before. Standard story line of a guy and a girl trying to get together, but for one reason or another they can't. So you may be wondering why I gave it a B then. Probably the main reason is because I still enjoy films like this even though they have been done before. Patrick Dempsey does a good job. One of the other characters that I liked was his black friend who was one of the only people to have a lot of sense - and good morals for that matter.

Recommend: Sure, if you are in the mood for a chic flick, then this should fill your need. It has humor and it's "cute" moments. You will lose the kids fast though, so leave this one for you and someone special to watch together.
